Krishi Vikas Kendra

Krishi Vikas Kendra is neither a factory nor a trader.

Krishi Vikas Kendra (KVK) is an Agricultural Science Centre established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Its primary role is to act as a district-level institution for the transfer of agricultural technologies and knowledge to farmers. KVKs provide on-farm testing, frontline demonstrations, and various training programs for farmers, rural youth, and extension functionaries to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable farming practices. They serve as a crucial link between agricultural research institutions and the farming community.

Krishi Vikas Kendra (KVKs), which translates to Agricultural Science Centers, are not commercial manufacturing or sales companies. They are agricultural extension centers established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) across India. Their primary role is to conduct on-farm trials, organize frontline demonstrations, provide training, and disseminate new technologies and knowledge to farmers.

As part of their mandate to support agricultural development and technology transfer, KVKs may produce, distribute, or make available specific agricultural inputs and outputs to farmers, often for demonstration purposes or on a cost-recovery basis. These typically include:

Quality seeds of improved crop varieties

High-yielding planting materials such such as saplings, seedlings, and tissue culture plants

Bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides

Improved breeds of livestock and poultry, including chicks, ducklings, and fingerlings

Organic manures like vermicompost

Extension literature and training materials on modern farming practices and technologies
