AUROVILLE FOUNDATION BRANCH

The Auroville Foundation is neither a factory nor a trading company.

It is a statutory body established by the Government of India through the Auroville Foundation Act of 1988. Its primary purpose is to hold, manage, preserve, and develop Auroville as a universal township dedicated to human unity, spiritual research, and sustainable living, based on the vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

The Foundation serves as the administrative and legal framework for the ongoing development and functioning of Auroville. While the Foundation itself does not directly engage in commercial manufacturing or trading, various independent units and enterprises within the Auroville township are involved in a diverse range of activities. These include artisanal production, organic farming, sustainable technology development, educational services, hospitality, and the creation and sale of various products like handicrafts, incense, garments, and food items. These commercial activities are undertaken by individual Aurovilians or groups to support the township's economy and its residents, contributing to the self-sufficiency and well-being of the community under the broader umbrella of the Auroville Foundation.
