Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) is an autonomous state-owned enterprise operating under the Ministry of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh. Established in 1972 following the independence of Bangladesh, the corporation was formed to manage, develop, and promote the sugar and food processing sectors of the country.
BSFIC is classified as a factory and manufacturer rather than a trader. It directly owns, manages, and operates 15 sugar mills, one major distillery (Carew and Company Bangladesh Limited), and various food processing units across the nation. The corporation is responsible for the entire production cycle, from sourcing sugarcane from local farmers to processing and refining it into finished goods.
In addition to producing refined sugar and molasses, BSFIC manufactures industrial spirit, alcohol, organic fertilizers, and various food products. The corporation plays a critical role in the national economy by supporting rural sugarcane farmers, generating employment, and stabilizing the domestic sugar market.
