VinSmart was established in 2018 as a subsidiary of Vingroup, Vietnam's largest private conglomerate. Its primary focus was on the research, development, and production of high-tech electronic products.

Initially, VinSmart gained significant recognition for its Vsmart brand smartphones, smart televisions, and various Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The company's objective was to create cutting-edge technology products with competitive prices for the Vietnamese market and to expand its presence internationally. VinSmart quickly built a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and invested heavily in R&D, collaborating with leading global technology partners.

In May 2021, Vingroup announced a strategic restructuring for VinSmart. The company ceased the production of smartphones and smart televisions to fully shift its resources and expertise towards the research and development of smart electric vehicles (under the VinFast brand) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This move aimed to concentrate Vingroup's efforts on core high-tech sectors with greater long-term growth potential, utilizing VinSmart's engineering capabilities in hardware and software development for new strategic ventures.

VINSMART Joint Stock Company for Research and Production (CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN NGHIÊN CỨU VÀ SẢN XUẤT VINSMART) produced and sold the following products:

* **Smartphones:** Vsmart branded smartphones.

* **Smart Home Devices:** Smart TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and other smart home appliances.

* **Automobiles (formerly):** VinFast cars (though VinFast is now a separate entity).

Note: Vinsmart has ceased production of smartphones and TVs to focus on components for VinFast.
