Pertamina found nonconventional oil and gas reserves with a potential of 11 billion barrels, opening investment opportunities and energy innovation in Indonesia.
Bisnis.com, Tangerang-PT Pertamina (Persero) revealed the finding of nonconventional oil reserves estimated to reach 11 billion barrels of oil in place.
Vice President Director of Pertamina Oki muraza explained that non-conventional oil and gaseous resources (non-conventional resources) is one of the business opportunities that can be developed amid the end of the energy era that is easily explored and cheap or easy energy.
According to him, through these non-conventional resources, Indonesia will be a great opportunity to investors, engineers, and regulators to develop the national energy sector based on methodology and innovation.
Oki said, one of the unconventional sources was recently discovered by the company in the form of oil reserves possible reached 11 billion barrels of oil in place from the sector.
“The good news is, we recently had 11 billion barrels of oil reserves in place to non-conventional resources,” Oki said in a discussion session at the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) convention and Exhibition or IPA convex 2026 at ice BSD City, Wednesday (20/5/2026).
To maximize this nonconventional sector, Oki said, one of the main things that need to be done is to create an manufacturing ecological stability that is able to optimize the research of the sector.
Along with this, Oki said, Pertamina is encouraging the discussion of fiscal aspects with the government. In addition, the company also opens collaboration opportunities with strategic partners and global energy services companies.
In addition to non-conventional oil and gaseous, Oki said, Pertamina also working on the production possible of the old field (mature fields). This is done through enhanced oil recovery methodology (EOR).
He pointed out, one of the projects that is considered successfully developed with EOR chemical methodology is the easiest field in Riau province.
“We still have about 4 billion barrels in the InAs field. This is also our homework, ”he continued.
