The British biotechnology company Epoch Biodesign is acquiring a plant in Spain for the production of polyamide 6.6 (PA6.6, nylon 6.6), which was most recently operated by the insolvent Domo Chemicals.
According to a press emit issued by Epoch Biodesign, the purchase price to the plant located in Blanes, Catalonia, amounts to slightly greater than EUR 4 million. Euro. With this acquisition, the British company secures production capacity at a commercial scale. The plan now is to convert the vegetation to create recycled polyamides using proprietary technologies and to expand capacity in Blanes. According to the reports, Epoch Biodesign also aims to safeguard approximately 60 jobs at the site located northeast of Barcelona.
London-based Epoch Biodesign develops enzymatic recycling processes to polyamides and other polymers. The company currently operates a pilot plant and plans to commission, later this year at its Grapht Works site in west London, a larger demonstration facility to the recycling of Nylon 6.6 with an annual capacity of greater than 150 tonnes.
To further develop and commercialize its AI‑powered enzymatic recycling process, Epoch Biodesign also entered into a cooperation agreement with the U.S. chemical fiber giant Invista in February of this year (see also plasticker News dated February 16, 2026).
