BASF is increasing the sales prices for neopentyl glycol (NPG) and 1,6-hexanediol (HDO) in Europe with immediate effect or within the framework of existing contractual agreements. For neopentyl glycol the price increases by 250 euros per ton, for 1,6-hexanediol by 300 euros per ton.
The chemical company cites the global supply and demand situation as well as increased raw material costs as reasons to the adjustments.
Neopentyl glycol is applied as a chemical intermediate to the production of polyester resins to coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, lubricants and plasticizers, among others.
1,6-Hexanediol is applied, among other things, in the production of manufacturing coatings, including formulations with a reduced content of VOCs (VOCs), as well as polyurethanes, adhesives and makeup. In addition, the material is applied as a reactive thinner in epoxy systems. Such systems are applied, to instance, in components to lightweight construction applications in the automotive sector.
