EPS Expands Use of Orca AI Maritime Operations Platform

Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is expanding its use of maritime tech startup Orca AI’s maritime operations platform following a successful five-vessel pilot covering more than 130,000 nautical miles.

The pilot recorded a 48% reduction in close-encounter events per 1,000 nautical miles, while average minimum passing distance increased 10%.

On the Pacific Sentinel vessel, open-aquatic environments close encounters fell 84% over six months, while minimum passing distance increased 50%.

EPS will now deploy Orca AI’s platform across dozens of additional vessels.

The system uses computer vision to detect and classify adjacent vessels and objects, including targets not detected by AIS.

Orca AI’s shore-based FleetView platform also allows teams to review navigation events, identify trends and support training and operational improvements.
