BYK: Production expansion of high-performance additives in Schkopau

The specialty chemicals manufacturer BYK has expanded the production and storage capacities at the Schkopau site in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the company, around 12 million were sold. The core of the expansion is a new extrusion plant. With it, BYK can now also manufacture items in granulate form in Schkopau, which are applied, to instance, in fiber optics and domestic appliances. According to the company, this increases the production capacity of the site by around 25%. In addition, a warehouse with 600 additional pallet spaces and a loading ramp to container goods were built.

BYK mainly produces high-performance modifiers to thermoplastics in Schkopau. The site employs around 50 people and has been part of BYK-Chemie GmbH since 2011. The additives offered there under the "SCONA" brand are applied, to instance, as adhesion promoters in plastics and plastic compounds. According to the company, around 27 million have already been sold in the past 15 years. Euros invested in the location.

Part of the current project is also a new heating concept that uses heat recovery and heat pumps and does not require fossil fuels. In another project, BYK wants to completely forego fossil fuels at the entire location by the end of 2027.
