European Commission invites chemical companies to Bio-based Europe Alliance

Share:

The European Commission is inviting chemical companies to join the newly created Bio-based Europe Alliance. With this initiative, EU Commissioner Roswall wants to strengthen the market for bio-based materials and accelerate investments in a European bio-based economy. VNCI and Cefic support this initiative.

The Bio-based Europe Alliance brings together producers of bio-based materials, items and technologies with major European buyers. The goal is to better connect supply and demand. In doing so, the Commission aims to create greater certainty to investments in new bio-based technologies and production chains.

Market demand

In addition to technological research, sufficient market demand is also needed to roll out innovative bio-based solutions on a commercial scale. The Bio-based Europe Alliance must contribute to this by bringing companies from different links of the value chain together.

The Commission's ambition is to mobilize ten billion euros in off-take commitments to bio-based items and materials through the alliance by 2030.
