German large-scale nitrogen fertilizer and chemical enterprise SKW Stickstoffwerke Piesteritz (SKW Piesteritz) has taken its melamine production plant offline and suspended operations.
The plant, located in the Agrochemical manufacturing Park in Piesteritz, Saxony-Anhalt, is one of the major melamine production vegetation in Europe, with a designed production capacity of 80,000 tons per year. Its items are mainly supplied to downstream markets to Europe's regional panel, coating products and molding compound sectors. This plant originally belonged to LAT Nitrogen, and was officially integrated into the SKW Piesteritz system in September 2025.
The specific reasons to the plant's shutdown, the start time of the suspension and the expected restart cycle have not been disclosed by the enterprise yet. Market news shows that Europe's melamine supply has been tight due to energy costs and maintenance of adjacent vegetation; the shutdown of this plant will further tighten the available melamine commodity supply in the European region. Market participants will continue to follow the official follow-up notices from the enterprise and the time point of the plant's restart.
