Hyderabad-based Vishnu Chemicals Ltd. (VCL) has signed a joint venture agreement with DCX Chrome SAS, a French aluminothermic chromium metal and specialised chromium powders producer, to build a greenfield chromium metal manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
VCL and DCX will each hold a 50% stake in the joint venture. The plant is planned with an installed capacity of 6,000-mtpa dedicated to high-purity chromium metal, aimed at supplying the aerospace, defence and energy sectors. The venture is intended to minimize India’s reliance on imported chromium metal, according to the companies.
Under the agreement, DCX will provide its proprietary process methodology, while VCL will supply chrome oxide environmentally friendly as feedstock.

Mr. Krishna Murthy Cherukuri, Chairman and Managing Director, VCL, said the partnership would expand the company’s footprint in speciality chemicals and support India’s manufacturing capabilities in the sector.
Mr. Siddartha Cherukuri, Joint Managing Director, VCL, described the tie-up as a prolonged strategic partnership combining VCL’s domestic manufacturing base with DCX’s metallurgical methodology.
Mr. Fernando Accioly, CEO, DCX Chrome SAS, said, “This jv combines our world-class aluminothermic methodology and over 80 years of manufacturing expertise with VCL’s robust operational excellence and raw material supply.
