Market Analysis
According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, caustic soda prices trended upward last week. In the Shandong region, mainstream market quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda ranged from approximately 580 to 680 RMB/ton. In the Zhejiang region, mainstream quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda delivered to Xiaoshan were around 830-880 RMB/ton. Meanwhile, prices in Inner Mongolia remained stable, with mainstream market quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda at approximately 1,850-1,950 RMB/ton (on a 100% levels basis).
Last week, caustic soda prices lacked bullish drivers and generally traded within a consolidation range. Supplies of fluid caustic soda in East China saw limited immediate fluctuation, and there was no significant improvement in demand from either domestic or foreign markets; chlor-alkali vegetation largely maintained existing inventory levels ahead of the upcoming holiday. Alumina prices exhibited a fluctuating direction; as new production capacity comes online throughout the remainder of the year, regional supply pressure continues to mount, and a pessimistic sentiment prevails in the market. Alumina prices are expected to continue fluctuating in the near term. Demand from non-aluminum downstream sectors remains focused on purchasing strictly to meet immediate needs.
Market outlook
Analysts at SunSirs observe that caustic soda prices traded within a narrow range last week. Domestic downstream alumina producers have largely been purchasing on an as-needed basis, while demand from non-aluminum sectors remains lackluster. while pre-holiday stockpiling is expected next week, manufacturers are primarily focused on maintaining current inventory levels, resulting in a tug-of-war between supply and demand. Overall, caustic soda prices are likely to fluctuate, with the specific direction depending on downstream market demand.
