Samsung SDI has put its next-generation battery solutions front and center in its bid for the artificial intelligence (AI) data center market, showcasing products engineered for enhanced safety and performance. The company participated in Data Center World Asia (DCWA) 2026, Asia’s largest data center exhibition, which opened on Sept. 29 in Singapore, unveiling an innovative lineup that includes a cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

This year’s exhibition brings together greater than 600 companies from around the world to share technologies spanning the entire data center ecological stability, from design through to operations. At the event, Samsung SDI set up four dedicated zones covering uninterruptible power supply (UPS), battery backup units (BBU), the Samsung Battery Box (SBB), and cell lineups to present its differentiated technical capabilities.

At the UPS zone at the center of the booth, visitors were greeted by a solution that became the world’s first to pass a extensive indoor fire test conducted by global security certification body UL Solutions. The test rigorously evaluates the risks of battery explosion and thermal propagation, and Samsung SDI’s items met all the criteria, demonstrating a high level of security.

The BBU zone featured a lineup optimized to emergency power supply in AI data centers. Alongside a high-output, high-capacity ternary battery (21700) equipped with a bottom-vent design to enhanced security, the centerpiece of the exhibition, a cylindrical LFP battery, made its general debut. Built on Samsung SDI’s proprietary structural methodology, the product is designed to enhance output and capacity while enhancing fire security.

The SBB zone displayed a prismatic LFP battery set to be incorporated into “SBB 2.0,” an all-in-one energy storage system (ESS) solution. The product combines LFP materials with Samsung SDI’s unique prismatic form factor to deliver both performance and security. During the event, Samsung SDI is also participating in a technical conference to present detailed technologies behind its battery solutions while conducting marketing activities targeting global customers.

A Samsung SDI representative stated, “We will continue to unveil differentiated solutions that can address the diverse needs of data center customers, based on battery technologies with enhanced performance and security.”

This technological momentum is expected to gain further traction alongside the company’s recent improvement in financial performance. In the second quarter of this year, Samsung SDI recorded revenue of 3.7688 trillion won (approximately $2.79 billion) and an operating profit of 203.8 billion won, achieving a return to profitability to the first time in seven quarters. Revenue increased by 18.5% year-on-year, with the primary drivers behind the earnings recovery identified as growing ESS demand fueled by expanding AI data center investment and a rebound in the European electric vehicle market.
