India's Kandla Port Moves Ahead With E-Methanol Plant

India’s Kandla port held a ceremony last week to lay the foundation stone for a new e-methanol plant.

The plant, which will have a production capacity of 150 mt/day, is expected to support the research of environmentally friendly fuel infrastructure at the port, the port authority said in a social media post on Saturday.

Earlier this year, Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd signed an MoU with Deendayal Port Authority to develop the e-methanol plant at Kandla Port. Targets shipping demand

E-methanol is produced using environmentally friendly hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide powered by renewable electricity and is increasingly viewed as a viable alternative fuel to shipping.

The port also conducted India’s first methanol bunkering demonstration in April, as it looks to build infrastructure to alternative marine fuels.
