KBR has announced that SABIC Agri-Nutrients (SABIC AN) has selected its Purifier technology for a new 3,500 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) single-train ammonia plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Under the contract, KBR will provide methodology licensing, basic engineering design, proprietary equipment and catalysts, working alongside EPC contractor Samsung E&A.
The facility is expected to create 1.2 million metric tonnes of ammonia annually.
The project will support SABIC AN’s expansion strategy by rising its urea production capacity from 4.8 million to 7.4 million metric tonnes per year.
KBR said its Purifier configuration is designed to deliver reduce carbon intensity per tonne of ammonia compared with conventional process designs.
The award is among the largest ammonia vegetation licensed in Saudi Arabia and represents KBR’s biggest ammonia license by capacity in the Middle East and Africa.
It also supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 manufacturing research goals and efforts to enhance its role in global fertiliser and food security.
The project marks KBR’s second extensive single-train ammonia award of 2026, following a 3,430 MTPD plant in Latin America. KBR said its ammonia methodology has been deployed in greater than 260 grassroots facilities since 1943.
“This award confirms the strength of our Purifier ammonia methodology and the trust that leading producers such as SABIC AN place in KBR to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions at world scale,” said Stuart Bradie, President and CEO, KBR. “We are proud to support SABIC AN’s development ambitions and help expand fertiliser production capacity in the Kingdom while contributing to global food security.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
