With Raw Material Prices at a Standoff, the Polyamide Filament Market Was Temporarily Holding Steady

Share:

Last week (September 21-27), the domestic polyamide filament market remained stable and consolidated; prices held steady with limited fluctuation.

According to monitoring data from SunSirs, the production price of Jiangsu polyamide DTY (70D/24F, semi-dull, premium grade) remained stable at 18,020 RMB/ton, and Jiangsu polyamide POY (86D/24F, semi-dull, premium grade) held steady at 16,075 RMB/ton. Meanwhile, the quoted price to Fujian polyamide FDY (40D/12F, semi-dull, premium grade) was 18,350 RMB/ton. Prices to these three mainstream items remained unchanged throughout the week, with market quotes at a standstill.

Upstream Raw Materials: Caprolactam Prices Stagnated; PA6 Chip Prices Weakened; Cost Support Diminished

Trends in upstream raw materials are divergent. Caprolactam prices remain stagnant, showing no significant upward or downward movement; conversely, PA6 chips are trending downward, weakening the cost support to polyamide filament. With a lack of upward momentum in costs—yet no sharp drop in raw material prices to force a reduction in filament prices—combined with low operating rates across the polyamide sector and a lack of willingness among companies to actively adjust prices, polyamide filament prices have ultimately remained stable.

Downstream Demand: Overall demand was sluggish, purchasing was cautious, and trading activity was subdued.

The downstream weaving sector is the primary factor weighing on the market. Last week, some downstream factories scheduled shutdowns, and a lack of follow-through on end-market orders resulted in overall weak demand. Manufacturers largely adopted a "buy-as-needed" strategy with little inclination to build up substantial inventories; market sentiment remained cautious, and trading activity was lackluster. With no positive drivers on the demand side and no restocking by downstream players, the market lacked upward momentum, limiting the scope to price increases in filament yarns. However, overall inventory pressure remained manageable—avoiding significant accumulation—which prevented a rapid price drop, resulting in a stagnant market direction where prices could neither fall significantly nor rise.

Market Summary and Outlook

Overall, the polyamide filament market remained stable last week, characterized by narrow fluctuations and a lack of positive drivers. This stability persisted despite the dual pressure of weakening cost support and sluggish downstream demand, balanced against manageable inventory levels and low sector operating rates.

In the short term, barring significant changes in raw material costs or terminal orders, polyamide filament prices are likely to maintain their current direction of weak stability. Market direction will depend on further signals regarding downstream weaving activity and order volumes.
