Krillmat: Compostable and recyclable biopolymers

Share:

The Italian biopolymer manufacturer Krillmat is presenting two material families of the "Rekrill" brand at Fakuma 2026. In the start-up area at booth ÜO-16-2, the company is showing both compostable and polymers intended for conventional plastic recycling. According to the manufacturer, both material groups consist of 100 percent bio-based raw materials and are designed for processing on existing plastic processing plants.

Two different avenues of utilization

The "Rekrill Compostable" product line is made from agricultural and food sector byproducts, including hazelnut shells, grape pulp and orange peel. According to the manufacturer, the materials are biodegradable and compostable. The coloration and surface texture of the various material types are based on their respective raw materials.

The new "Rekrill Recyclable" product line, on the other hand, should be able to be recycled in conventional plastic recycling streams. According to the company, the completely bio-based polymer was developed with a view to the standards of the European Packaging and Packaging discarded materials Ordinance (PPWR). Krillmat names extrusion, injection molding, rotational molding and blow molding as the processing process.

Processing on existing vegetation

According to the company, the materials can be integrated into existing production processes without having to replace machines or tools. Krillmat presents different material types, surfaces and shades at the fair. In addition, the company provides information on consumption-specific formulation adjustments.
