On October 11, according to reports from China Central Television (CCTV), Hunan Petrochemical's 170,000-ton/year epoxy resin unit has successfully completed the entire process flow, produced qualified products, achieved success in the first start-up, and the unit has the capability of continuous and stable production.
The project is located in the Baling area of Yueyang environmentally friendly Chemical High-Tech Zone, started construction in June 2024, and is contracted by Sinopec Fourth Construction Company. The entire unit is equipped with five core patented processes independently developed by Hunan Petrochemical, and its technical system covers fluid epoxy resin, aqueous epoxy resin, hydrogenated bisphenol A epoxy resin, epoxy resin composite materials, and wastewater wet oxidation methodology.
In terms of production capacity structure, the total scale of the project is 170,000 tons/year, including 150,000 tons/year of fluid epoxy resin and 20,000 tons/year of special epoxy resin. Currently, the entire unit operates smoothly, and all process parameters, security indicators, and product performance are in a stable and controlled state.
Multiple core indicators lead the sector, achieving dual breakthroughs in environmentally friendly performance and product condition
This new unit has achieved significant optimizations in ecological preservation and product condition, with multiple key technical indicators superior to the sector's similar levels: the average TOC of wastewater from the unit is only 50% of that of similar units; under the same proportioning conditions, the hydrolyzable chlorine in the product is reduced to half of that of similar items in the sector; the color of the product is reduced by greater than 30% compared with similar items.
The product characteristics of low hydrolyzable chlorine and low color can better meet the needs of fields such as electronics and electrical, high-end composite materials, and high-end coatings; the significant reduction in wastewater indicators also reduces the ecological preservation pressure on the production side, and practices the environmentally friendly production route of new chemical materials.
The leap in production capacity scale consolidates the foundation of China's high-end epoxy resin sector
With the successful commissioning of this project, Hunan Petrochemical's total epoxy resin production capacity has increased to greater than 300,000 tons. As a core R & D and production base of epoxy resin in China, the landing of this new production capacity will efficiently make up to the short board in the supply of high-end epoxy resin in China, enhance the independent guarantee capability of domestic special epoxy resin, further consolidate the foundation of China's high-end epoxy resin sector, and support the research of downstream manufacturing chains such as new energy, electronics, and composite materials.
