The plaintiff SPC GmbH & Co. KG is restructuring its service portfolio and bundling its activities in the future in the three business units "K_Engineering Hub", "K_Tomorrow Factory" and "K_Precision Parts". The aim of the realignment is to structure development, prototyping and manufacturing skills more clearly and to offer them both individually and along a continuous process chain. At the same time, the company wants to open up additional applications outside of the previous automotive focus.
Plaintiff SPC has been developing and manufacturing technical plastic components at the Hartha site in Saxony since 1992. The company processes thermoplastic plastics and in particular has experience with high-performance plastics such as PPS as well as plastic-metal hybrid components.
Engineering as a distinct field of expertise
In the "K_Engineering Hub", plaintiff SPC summarizes research and consulting services. These include design, manufacturability analysis, material advice, simulation and the research of tools and devices. The unit should be able to be applied both as an external research resource and in addition to existing customer teams.
The above-mentioned fields of consumption include components and product systems to fuel cells, structural components, functional and electronic housings, pump and valve bodies as well as atmosphere ducts and fluid ducts. According to the company, the unit is based on greater than 40 years of experience in plastic research.
Additive manufacturing to prototypes, tooling, and small production runs
With the "K_Tomorrow Factory" business unit, Kläger SPC is expanding in-house additive manufacturing. The company has been using 3D printing to prototyping and research tasks to several years and is adding a network of external specialists to internal capacities. In the future, the methodology is to be applied greater to manufacturing applications and to customers outside the automotive sector.
Functional prototypes, individual parts, equipment, devices, spare parts as well as preliminary, small and special series are to be manufactured on filament-based systems. The scope of services also includes rapid tooling to the immediate production of tools and fixtures.
Standard filaments such as PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA as well as technical and filled materials are processed. TPU, glass fiber-filled TPU, PC-CF, PET-CF and PPS-CF are mentioned. In the short to medium term, the plaintiff SPC is also planning to make granules that are already applied in its own injection molding usable to additive processes.
The company names spare parts, handling components, devices and applications with small numbers as possible fields of consumption. Component data can be stored digitally and manufactured on demand. In addition to manufacturing and mechanical engineering customers, the plaintiff SPC claims to also focus its activities on applications in the defense sector.
Mass production remains the core business.
The "K_Precision Parts" business unit encompasses the existing series production business. Plaintiff SPC manufactures precision components in Hartha from thermoplastic plastics in small and substantial numbers. One focus is on components made of PPS and plastic-metal hybrid solutions.
Manufacturing addresses applications in mobility, sector, and defense. This means that series production remains the established core business, however organizationally it is clearly delimited from research services and additive manufacturing.
End-to-end process chain or separate consumption
The three business units can be commissioned independently of one another or in combination. This enables pure research projects, additive manufacturing based on existing CAD data or direct commissioning of series production. In the network, Kläger SPC covers the process chain from design and material selection to prototypes and pre-series to manufacturing series production.
Strategically, the reorganization aims to be involved in research projects earlier and to open up additional business areas in addition to the previous automotive focus. At the same time, Kläger SPC is expanding its portfolio to include additive manufacturing as an independent manufacturing offer and separating the different service areas greater clearly from one another in terms of organization.
