The total investment is 7.25 billion yuan! Wuhai Guangjin BDO Project with Annual Output of 300000 Tons was completed and put into operation in September

Recently, the construction of the Wuhai Guangjin New Material BDO-PBAT Integration Project has entered a crucial sprint stage, and strive to be fully completed and put into operation in September 2026.

"At present, among the three projects approved by Guangjin Company, the completion rate of the calcium carbide project has reached 100 percent, the completion rate of the back pressure unit project is about 75 percent, and the annual output of 300000 t BDO project is about 78 percent. The annual output of 484000 t calcium carbide raw material project is expected to be put into operation by the end of might, and the back pressure unit and the annual output of 300000 t BDO project are expected to be completed and put into operation in September." Wu Yueming, general manager of Wuhai Guangjin New Material Co., Ltd., said.

As a key regional project to manufacturing transformation and upgrading, the Guangjin New Materials BDO–PBAT integrated project is being cutting-edge as a unified whole, with three major components—calcium carbide production, BDO synthesis, and a back-pressure turbine unit—coordinated and implemented in tandem. The project is underpinned by calcium carbide as a feedstock, powered by back-pressure turbine‑generator units, and centers on BDO and PBAT as its core items, thereby establishing a closed-loop system characterized by upstream–downstream integration and energy self-sufficiency. Among them, the project with an annual output of 484000 t calcium carbide provides basic raw materials to BDO production, and adopts extensive closed calcium carbide furnace and cutting-edge methodology of hydrogen production from furnace gaseous. Back pressure unit provides electricity and other energy to ensure the stable energy consumption of the project. The first phase of the 300000 t BDO project will be equipped with acetylene, formaldehyde and other production devices to provide core raw materials to the second phase of the 300000 t PBAT degradable material project. Leveraging the Guangna Group’s manufacturing-chain strengths and Wuhai City’s resource endowments, the project will establish a fully integrated “coal–calcium carbide–BDO–biodegradable plastics” value chain.

The project’s core items—calcium carbide, BDO, and PBAT—are broadly applied and boast significant market possible. Once the project is fully commissioned, it will achieve end-to-end conversion of coal resources into high-end biodegradable new materials, driving the transformation of the traditional coal‑chemical sector toward environmentally friendly, low‑carbon, and high‑value‑added production. This will efficiently optimize the regional manufacturing structure and play a significant leading and demonstrative role in promoting the environmentally friendly transition of traditional industries and ensuring the supply of raw materials to biodegradable polymers.

"The entire manufacturing chain of the project has achieved self-sufficiency in raw materials and fuels, controllable raw materials and controllable costs. It can almost achieve the lowest cost in the whole sector of core items, forming a low-cost competitive advantage, and forming a complete manufacturing chain from coal to coal washing, to coal coking, to by-product methanol, and then to BDO production downstream of methanol, creating a model project to innovative research to Wuhai coal companies." Wu Yueming introduced.
