India's Tuticorin port has taken a step toward ammonia bunkering through a new agreement with AM Green.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCs Port) has partnered with the company on a planned 1 million mt/year environmentally friendly ammonia production project at Tuticorin, the port authority said in a statement on its website on Friday.

The companies also plan to develop environmentally friendly ammonia handling, storage and bunkering infrastructure at the port, along with pilot bunkering operations, security procedures and training programmes.

VOCs Port said the initiative is expected to support the research of environmentally friendly fuel corridors connecting the port with major ports in Europe and Asia.

The agreement was signed during a visit by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, secretary of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, who reviewed the port's renewable energy and sustainability projects.

The port is also developing a 750 m3 methanol bunkering facility.
