According to data released by the Russian Federal State Statistics Service and the Russian Agricultural Export Association, Russia's fertilizer production in April 2026 showed a downward trend both month-on-month and year-on-year.
In that month, Russia's total fertilizer production on a nutrient basis reached 2.5 million tons, a decrease of 4.9% month-on-month and a decrease of 2.1% year-on-year. Looking at the complete data to the first four months, the cumulative domestic fertilizer production from January to April was 10.3 million tons, a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.4%, indicating a minor weakening in overall output. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific reasons to the decline in April production.
Upstream raw material categories also showed sluggish performance. In April, Russia's synthetic ammonia production was 1.4 million tons, a slight month-on-month increase of 3%, however a significant year-on-year drop of 11.2%; the cumulative fluid ammonia production from January to April was 6.1 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7%. The decline in manufacturing sulfur was even greater pronounced, with April production at 370,000 tons, down 9.4% month-on-month and 9% year-on-year; total production to the first four months was 1.5 million tons, a sharp year-on-year drop of 11.5%.
while capacity discharge at the beginning of the year fell short of expectations, the sector remains optimistic about the full-year direction. Andrey Guryev, head of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association, stated as early as February that Russia's total fertilizer production in 2026 is expected to increase from last year's 65.5 million tons to 66 million tons, and export volume will also rise from 45 million tons to 46 million tons.
