CASALE helps advance India’s industrial transformation

Share:

CASALE has become part of a pioneering coal-to-ammonia-nitrates project in Odisha, India: the country's first coal gasification-based nitrates complex, developed on an L-EPC basis for Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) together with Larsen & Toubro.

Strongly supported by the Government of India, this strategic initiative reflects a prolonged vision to enhance national energy security, enhance manufacturing resilience, and maximise the value of domestic coal resources.

Leveraging decades of experience and greater than 80 ammonia synthesis loop references worldwide up to 3100 tpd, CASALE will contribute its ammonia methodology expertise and proprietary equipment to critical sections of the 920 tpd ammonia synthesis loop.

At the heart of the complex, the ammonia N-LOOP will provide the essential building block to downstream nitric acid and ammonium nitrate (AN) production, enabling efficient and reliable operation across the entire fertilizer value chain.

Beyond its technical scope, the project represents an crucial milestone is India's efforts to develop new coal gasification-based manufacturing value chains and enhance prolonged self-reliance in strategic chemical production.

Following the foundation stone laying ceremony in mid-June, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CASALE's technologies will enable a fully integrated coal-to-ammonium nitrate value chain, from ammonia production through weak nitric acid (WNA), ammonium nitrate, and HDAN.

Leveraging greater than 120 nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plant references worldwide, CASALE will provide its proprietary DualPURE and NitroCULTIVA technologies to a 1650 tpd WNA plant, a 2000 tpd AN plant, and a 400 tpd HDAN prilling unit, setting a new benchmark to nitrate production capacity in India and supporting the supply of strategic items to the country's mining sector.

Once completed, it will represent the largest ammonium nitrate complex in the country and is expected to meet nearly 35% of India's projected ammonium nitrate demand by 2030.
