AkzoNobel Ahead of Target to Halve Carbon Emissions

Recently, AkzoNobel announced that it has achieved its goal of halving its operating carbon emissions by 2030 four years ahead of schedule. The company's goal of reducing direct and indirect carbon emissions from production by 50% from the 2018 baseline, set in 2020, has recently been completed and is certified by the Science Carbon Targeting Initiative (SBTi).

Currently, AkzoNobel has achieved 100 percent renewable electricity operations in North America, Latin America and Europe, covering 69 percent of its production sites. The company also recently completed full power switching in South Africa and Vietnam, and has achieved 100 per cent renewable electricity supply to 92 operations worldwide. Among them, AkzoNobel's production base in China has achieved a 56.9 per cent reduction in carbon releases compared to 2018. Five factories in Shanghai, Changzhou, Suzhou and Langfang have achieved 100 percent environmentally friendly power operation. At present, six production bases in China have been rated as environmentally friendly factories, of which Changzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai and Guangzhou are among the ranks of national environmentally friendly factories.
