H & S Anlagentechnik GmbH is expanding the international spread of its technology for the chemical recycling of polyurethane soft foams. The German company has granted KPX Chemical the exclusive rights of use for the Korean market. Together with KPX Chemical and Chinyang Polyurethanes, a production plant for recycled polyols is being built in Eumseong, South Korea, with commercial operation due to start in June 2027.
The project will consumption the recycling methodology developed by H & S to the first time on an manufacturing scale in Asia. According to the company, the process is already commercially established in Europe and Latin America. Through the cooperation, H & S wants to open up the Korean market and expand the international presence of its recycling technologies.
The plant will be built on the Chinyang Polyurethanes factory site. The aim is to recycle polyurethane soft foam discarded materials into high-condition recycled polyols. According to the information, these can replace up to 30 percent of the new polyol in the production of new polyurethane soft foams; depending on the consumption, higher substitution rates should also be possible. According to the project partners, the foams produced from them achieve mechanical characteristics and comfort features that are comparable to conventional materials.
The project pursues an integrated circular economy approach within the KPX Group. Production discarded materials of Chinyang Polyurethanes is immediately introduced into the recycling process and processed into new polyols by KPX Chemical. This is intended to circulate raw materials, minimize the consumption of fossil resources and at the same time enhance the profitability of production.
to H & S, the collaboration represents a further measure in the international marketing of its plant and process technologies to polyurethane recycling. The company specializes in recycling processes to polyurethane and PET discarded materials as well as storage, dosing and turnkey process equipment. In addition to the recycling of polyurethane soft foams, the project partners are already examining the consumption of appropriate technologies to polyurethane hard foams, which are applied, among other things, in insulation materials, cooling systems and LNG tankers.
