During the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum, Ningbo Engineering Company, a subsidiary of Sinopec’s Refining & Chemical Engineering Group, formally signed a front-end engineering design and detailed design contract for the country’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project with Uzbekistan United Bioenergy Company.

This project is the first extensive, end-to-end bio‑jet fuel complex in Central Asia, integrating biomass feedstock processing, environmentally friendly hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel, electro‑synthetic aviation fuel (e‑SAF), and environmentally friendly diesel production. The project is equipped with extensive photovoltaic, environmentally friendly hydrogen, and energy-storage facilities. Power supply will be primarily solar‑based, with sorghum, rice husks, and crop straw serving as the main feedstocks. Planned production capacity includes approximately 160,000 tonnes of biomass‑derived SAF, 250,000 tonnes of e‑SAF, and 5,000 tonnes of environmentally friendly diesel. The product will meet the aviation sector’s needs in Central Asia and extend its reach to the Middle East and European markets, delivering significant carbon‑emit reduction benefits.

Sinopec stated that this signing marks a significant breakthrough to its refining and chemical engineering sector in the overseas low-carbon new‑energy market, efficiently expanding the company’s footprint in international environmentally friendly engineering services, deepening its environmentally friendly‑energy cooperation along the Belt and Road, and further enhancing the global recognition of its clean‑energy engineering brand. Sinopec will fully leverage its resource integration capabilities and core technological strengths to work with the project owner in building a regional benchmark to the environmentally friendly fuels sector, thereby bolstering Uzbekistan’s position as an aviation hub in Central Asia and accelerating the region’s transition toward clean energy. Through pragmatic, environmentally friendly cooperation, Sinopec will contribute to the high-condition joint research of the Belt and Road Initiative.
