Netherlands-based Shell Catalysts & Technologies has sold intellectual property assets and personnel relating to its Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS) business to US-based Lummus Technology.
The ECS business supplies releases-manage systems to manufacturing applications, including DeNOx systems designed to help customers minimize nitrogen oxide (NOx) releases and meet increasingly stringent environmental standards. Shell Catalysts & Technologies developed the business over the past 30 years, with its technologies deployed at over 300 customer sites worldwide, including Shell’s own assets, achieving pollutant reduction rates of 98-99 percent in certain applications.
Shell Catalysts & Technologies will continue supporting ECS customers during a transition period to ensure continuity of supply and service.
Ms Elise Nowee, President, Shell Catalysts & Technologies, said the divestment reflected the company’s commitment to positioning the ECS business to continued development, adding that its long-standing relationship with Lummus in specialised catalysts gave it confidence that Lummus was well placed to scale the offering and continue delivering value to customers.
Mr. Leon de Bruyn, President and CEO, Lummus methodology, said the acquisition would immediately enhance the company’s releases-manage and environmental solutions capabilities while deepening its cross-sector relationships, adding that the ECS customer base would enhance Lummus’ ability to support customers across the full lifecycle of their assets.
