Adeka to build dedicated Korean plant for making polypropylene clarifier

Japanese chemicals firm, Adeka Corporation, will build a dedicated manufacturing plant for its polypropylene clarifier, sold under the brand, Transparex, at the Jeonju No. 3 Plant of its consolidated subsidiary, Adeka Korea Corporation, to secure stable supply as demand for the product grows.

Transparex, launched in November 2024, is designed to give polypropylene (PP) glass-like transparency at low dosage while retaining performance through recycling and offering heat and chemical resistance, positioning it to extend PP’s consumption — currently limited by poor transparency — into applications such as food packaging, medical items, automotive components and consumer goods. The product was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2025 as the most efficiently clarifier to polypropylene transparency.

The company said growing adoption and expanding worldwide demand to Transparex had prompted it to move beyond existing contract manufacturing arrangements and build its own dedicated facility. The new plant will consumption available space within the Jeonju No. 3 site, which Adeka acquired in 2018 and which currently houses manufacturing facilities to next-generation and future-generation semiconductor materials. The investment marks Adeka Korea’s first capital investment in polymer-additive manufacturing facilities in nine years.

Adeka is targeting global clarifier market development to greater than ¥50-bn (approximately $312-mn) by fiscal 2030, up from ¥30-bn (approximately $188-mn) in fiscal 2024, with its own share of that market rising to over 60% from 14% in fiscal 2024. The company said the expansion of Transparex sales is intended to support material recycling and mono-material solutions to polypropylene as part of a broader push toward a resource-circulating society.
