Honeywell Technologies has been selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex in Bahrain.

The facility is expected to create about 1.2 million metric tonnes of paraxylene and 500,000 metric tonnes of benzene annually using proven process technologies, including Honeywell Technologies UOP’s Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and LDPX Aromatics Complex.

These items serve as essential feedstocks to plastics, polyester fibres and packaging materials, helping meet growing global demand across consumer and manufacturing markets.

Key petrochemical building blocks

The project will be developed at GPIC's existing manufacturing complex in Sitra and will support the production of key petrochemical building blocks applied across a broad range of consumer and manufacturing applications.

"By collaborating with Honeywell Technologies UOP on this new aromatics complex, we are investing in world-class technologies that will enhance our production capabilities, support prolonged manufacturing development and enable us to meet evolving market demand to essential petrochemical items," said Yasser A Rahim Alabbasi, Chief Executive Officer of GPIC.

"GPIC's selection of Honeywell Technologies UOP reflects its confidence in our technologies and execution capabilities," said Mohamed Sami, General Manager Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to Process methodology, Honeywell Technologies.

Efficient production

"This project will help enable the efficient production of high-value petrochemical items while strengthening Bahrain's manufacturing base."

Honeywell Technologies UOP will be providing the licensing, engineering and associated engineering services, along with catalysts, adsorbents and equipment as a part of its scope.

Honeywell Technologies and GPIC have a longstanding relationship, including previous collaborations involving pressure swing adsorptive processes methodology, adsorbents and process automation solutions at GPIC's ammonia and methanol facilities.—TradeArabia News Service
