It is the simplest aliphatic alcohol and one of the most important basic chemical raw materials. It is widely used in the synthesis of formaldehyde, MTBE, acetic acid, dimethyl ether, biodiesel and methyl chloride. Methanol can be miscible with water and most organic solvents in any proportion, and can react with a variety of compounds to generate a variety of derivatives, which are of great value in chemical production. In the chemical fiber industry, methanol is used as a raw material; in the plastics industry, it is involved in the production of resins and plasticizers; in the pharmaceutical and pesticide industries, methanol is used as a solvent and intermediate; in addition, methanol is also used to produce clean fuels and biodiesel. Methanol-preparation method

is mainly produced from syngas. The industrial route uses natural gas (or coal, coke, naphtha) as raw materials to produce synthesis gas (CO + H2), and then catalyzes the synthesis of methanol on a copper-based catalyst (Cu/ZnO/Al2O3) at 230-280 ℃ and 5-10 MPa: CO +2H2 → CH3OH,CO2 +3H2 → CH3OH + H2O. Storage and transportation as flammable liquids (UN 1230, Class 3).
