On July 9, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials announced a major expansion plan, investing $20.3 million to upgrade and expand its production base in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA, with a focus on expanding the capacity of high-performance thermoplastics and composite materials. The three-year expansion project will create 42 new jobs while retaining the existing 441 positions, providing strong support for local manufacturing employment.

This project will involve the renovation and retrofitting of existing aging facilities in Reading, the simultaneous construction of a new adjacent production workshop, and the installation of new production equipment to comprehensively enhance the mass production capabilities of specialty engineering thermoplastics and high-end composite materials. Meanwhile, the company will leverage this expansion to establish an Excellence Center to general and cutting-edge engineering plastics extrusion, addressing regional gaps in R&D innovation, strengthening process optimization, product iteration, and technological R&D capabilities at its North American production base, and further consolidating its advantages in regional production of high-end materials.

general information shows that Mitsubishi Chemical cutting-edge Materials is a subsidiary of the Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Chemical Group. Its core business focuses on the R&D, processing, and production of high-performance thermoplastics and innovative composite materials. Its items are broadly utilized in high-end manufacturing scenarios across multiple industries, making it a core supplier in the global high-end engineering plastics sector. This capacity upgrade in North America is also a significant strategic move to the company to deepen its overseas layout of high-end new materials and enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
