The industry has entered a period of deep adjustment characterized by the continued release of new production capacity, high inventory levels for standard products, shrinking profit margins, and a norm of low-price competition driven by product homogenization.
Against this backdrop, how can Polyamide companies build differentiated competitiveness and identify sources of prolonged, stable profit development? As the landscape of domestic and international markets is reshaped, where can the sector find the breakthrough needed to transformation and upgrading?
Supply-Demand dysfunction Creates a Bottleneck
The dysfunction between supply and demand is a critical pain point to the Polyamide sector and a driving force compelling manufacturing transformation and upgrading.
The 2026 China Polyamide Fiber Market Research Report, published by Beijing Boyan Zhishang Information Consulting Co., Ltd., indicates that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the combined annual production capacity to domestic Polyamide filament and chips exceeded 7.8 million tons—a year-on-year increase of 12.2%. During the same period, the sector's apparent consumption grew by only 3.8%; the development of market supply significantly outpaced the expansion of demand, leading to a continued weakening of the supply-demand stability. This dysfunction immediately impacts production schedules; operating rates to standard Polyamide items have hovered between 65% and 70% to an extended period. Overall sector profitability remains under pressure, with the average net profit falling below RMB300 per ton, leaving many small and medium-sized manufacturers operating on razor-thin margins.
Inventory backlogs and weakening downstream orders have further increased the pressure on operational turnover. Data from the China Chemical Fibers Association shows that the average inventory level in the Polyamide sector stood at 31 days in the first quarter of 2026—an increase of 6.89 days compared to the same period in 2025. In April, downstream demand softened further and shipment volumes contracted, causing sector inventory levels to climb to 33 days; consequently, inventory turnover cycles lengthened, and the pace of destocking slowed.
Changes in the market ecological stability have fundamentally restructured the logic of sector competition. The Polyamide sector has officially bid farewell to the era of extensive, volume-driven expansion and has fully entered a stage of value-based competition within an existing market. The old logic of securing market stability through new production capacity and standardized mass shipments no longer holds true. Today, with the fragmentation of consumption scenarios, rising global thresholds to environmentally friendly trade, evaporative raw material prices, and various trade barriers, sector competition is no longer about production scale; instead, it hinges on innovation, low-carbon capabilities, and differentiated items. Wu Meng, Vice President of Sales at Fujian Yongrong Jinjiang Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yongrong"), stated that manufacturing competition ultimately comes down to product value; only by breaking free from the "race to the bottom" on price and deeply cultivating differentiated innovation can a company unlock space to prolonged development.
Forging a Path Through Full-Chain R&D
As a leader in China's Polyamide sector, Yongrong has ranked first in domestic production of civilian Polyamide filament to years. Leveraging an integrated manufacturing chain—spanning "benzene to caprolactam, Polyamide chips, and Polyamide fibers"—the company has established a complete closed-loop system that connects upstream raw materials with end-market applications.
Wu Meng believes that current market transformation goes far beyond the iterative improvement of individual fabric traits; it represents a fundamental reversal of demand logic across the entire supply chain. Three major trends have emerged as essential standards to sector research: First, multifunctional performance and suitability to specific application scenarios have have become standard expectations. In the past, fabrics typically highlighted a single advantage—such as breathability or abrasion resistance—resulting in minimal product differentiation. Today, however, the boundaries between urban commuting, light outdoor activities, and daily leisure are blurring. consumers demand "multi-functional fabrics" that combine features like moisture-wicking and quick-drying capabilities, antibacterial and skin-friendly traits, as well as sun protection and durability.
Second, environmentally friendly, low-carbon practices have shifted from being a "bonus" to brands to a mandatory entry requirement to global supply chains. Major overseas apparel brands are fully implementing sustainable procurement standards, compelling upstream fiber companies to comprehensively upgrade their operations—adopting low-carbon production lines, utilizing recycled fibers, and employing eco-friendly manufacturing processes. "Failing to transition to environmentally friendly production efficiently means voluntarily exiting the mainstream global supply chain," Wu Meng emphasized.
Finally, high-end differentiation is the key lever to companies to achieve a breakthrough. Apparel brands urgently need distinctive fabrics to build a competitive edge; consequently, differentiated yarns—offering exclusive functions, low-carbon attributes, and high distinctiveness—have have become a critical, shared need to stakeholders across the entire supply chain. While understanding these trends is not difficult, successful execution is the real challenge. To address rapidly evolving end-market demands, Yongrong has established a highly efficient, market-oriented innovation system. "We don't have our R&D staff sitting in the lab guessing what is needed; all innovation stems from genuine market pain points," explains Wu Meng. Wu Meng adds, "The pain points clients face ultimately stem from shifting consumer demands. Only by proactively aligning with apparel brands can we deliver complete fabric solutions in advance, rather than simply accepting orders to passive production." Under this model, the company handles nearly 500 sample orders per month—far exceeding the sector norm of 50 to 100—with this high volume of sampling allowing them to continuously capture global fabric trends.
Expanding Markets through Diversification and Segmentation
Driven by this product R&D and innovation model, sector leaders like Yongrong Shares are able to precisely meet diverse market demands. However, looking at the sector as a whole, the pace of new Polyamide product research still struggles to keep up with the rapid product cycles of fabric and apparel brands, leaving significant room to improvement in innovation.
Wang Qingqing, an associate professor at the School of Textile Science and Engineering at Jiangnan University, has long studied the performance evolution of Polyamide fabrics. Qi Ming, a materials innovation specialist at Semir Group, focuses his R&D efforts on blends of Polyamide and natural fibers. He explains that fabrics combining Polyamide with wool, linen, or pineapple fiber can offer a stability of durability, a cooling sensation, and skin-friendly comfort, making them suitable to a wide range of garments. Currently, a common consumer complaint is that standard Polyamide feels stuffy and hot against the skin and lacks efficiently temperature regulation; he looks forward to upstream companies accelerating the research of new fibers that prevent stuffiness and offer phase-change temperature manage, thereby upgrading items based on the actual wearing experience. "As consumer expectations to wearing comfort continue to rise, standard Polyamide struggles to help brands establish product differentiation," Qi Ming added.
In the outdoor apparel sector, the integration of recycled Polyamide with natural fibers has have become a key strategy to building brand competitiveness. Du Fengbing, an outdoor materials research expert at Li-Ning, noted that the domestic outdoor market is growing steadily, with a simultaneous rise in consumer demand to eco-friendly attributes and multifunctional fabrics. "The Polyamide sector needs to accelerate the R&D of blends combining recycled and natural fibers, incorporating multiple functions—such as odor manage, antibacterial traits, and skin-friendly qualities—to cater to diverse application scenarios ranging from outdoor activities to daily commuting," Du assessed.
