CHARACTER

diethyl malonate, chemical formula is C7H12O4, is a colorless transparent liquid, with ester-specific fragrance, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. Diethyl malonate is an important raw material and solvent for organic synthesis, which is widely used in medicine, pesticide, dye and fragrance industries. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is used as a key intermediate for the synthesis of a variety of drugs; in the pesticide industry, diethyl malonate is used to synthesize pesticides and herbicides; in addition, it is also used to synthesize dyes and spices to improve the color and aroma of products; In organic synthesis, diethyl malonate, as an ester compound, participates in a variety of chemical reactions, such as transesterification, acylation, etc. As a multifunctional organic compound, diethyl malonate is widely used in many industrial fields.

APPLICATIONS

(1) As an important intermediate in the field of medicine, diethyl malonate can be used to synthesize a variety of drugs, such as norfloxacin, romefloxacin, chloroquine, phenylbutazone, barbital and sulfanilamide, etc. These drugs have a wide range of applications in the medical industry.

(2) In the food industry, diethyl malonate is used as a flavoring, mainly used to prepare fruit flavors such as pears, apples, grapes, cherries, etc., to add flavor to food and meet the diverse needs of consumers for food taste.

(3) diethyl malonate is also an important raw material in the production of dyes and pigments, and can be used to synthesize benzimidazole ketone organic pigments, etc. These pigments have bright color and good stability, and are widely used in textile, leather, paper and other industries.

(4) In addition, diethyl malonate is also used in the field of pesticides. It is an important intermediate for the preparation of sulfonylurea herbicides such as bensulfuron methyl, prazosulfuron methyl, nicosulfuron methyl, etc. These herbicides are used in agricultural production to control weeds and improve the yield and quality of crops.

Nature

Colorless liquid with a sweet ether odor. Relative density of 1. 0551. Melting point -50 ℃. Boiling point 199.3 ℃. Refractive index 1. 4135. Flash point of 100 ℃ with alcohol, ether miscible, soluble in chloroform, benzene and other organic solvents. Slightly soluble in water, the solubility in water at 20°C is 2.08g/lOOmL.

preparation method

  1. Sodium chloroacetate method Chloroacetic acid is neutralized with sodium carbonate at 30°C to form sodium chloroacetate, cyanated with sodium cyanide at 92-95°C, and then hydrolyzed with alkali to form sodium malonate. Sodium malonate is dried and then esterified with ethanol in the presence of sulfuric acid at 70-72°C. The esterification product was washed and distilled to obtain the final product diethyl malonate.
  2. The sodium cyanoacetate method is obtained by direct esterification of cyanoacetic acid with ethanol.

Use

Mainly used in organic synthesis, dyes, spices intermediates, but also the synthesis of chloroquine, Baotai pine, barbital and other pharmaceutical raw materials.
