CHARACTER

paraxylene, referred to as PX, is a colorless and transparent liquid with aromatic odor, chemical formula C8H10, molecular weight 106.17. It is mainly made of crude oil, naphtha or mixed xylene through refining and processing, and is an important raw material for textile and garment, polyester fiber and other industries. Para-xylene is mainly used in the production of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), and then used in the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET),PET can be used in the production of polyester fiber, polyester film, polyester bottle, etc., widely used in textile, packaging and other fields. As an important organic chemical raw material, p-xylene plays an important role in the national economy.

APPLICATIONS

(1) Production of polyester materials: p-xylene is the main raw material for the production of terephthalic acid (PTA), and PTA is the key intermediate for the manufacture of polyester fibers (such as polyester) and polyester resins. Polyester fiber is widely used in textile and garment industry, polyester resin is used in the production of beverage bottles, food packaging materials, flat panel display substrate, etc.

(2) Organic synthesis raw materials: p-xylene can also be used as raw materials for organic synthesis. Through a series of chemical reactions, compounds such as benzoic acid and p-tolualdehyde can be prepared. These compounds have important applications in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, coatings and other fields. For example, benzoic acid is a raw material for the manufacture of preservatives and is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries; p-tolualdehyde is an intermediate for the manufacture of pesticides and dyes.

(3) solvent and chromatographic analysis of standard substances: p-xylene is miscible in ethanol, ether and chloroform and other organic solvents, so it is also commonly used as a solvent. In addition, it is used as a standard substance for chromatographic analysis, chemical analysis and quality control.

(4) Manufacture of plasticizers: Paraxylene can also be used to manufacture plasticizers. Plasticizers are additives that can increase the flexibility, ductility and plasticity of plastics and are widely used in the plastic processing industry.

p-Xylene -properties

Colorless liquid, crystallization at low temperature, relative density 0.8611, O.8610. Melting point 13. 263 ℃. Boiling point 138. 37 ℃. Refractive index 1. 5004,(7z ~ 5)1. 4958. Flash point 27.2 ℃. With ethanol, ether, benzene, acetone miscible, insoluble in water. Explosion limit 1% ~ 6% (volume).

p-Xylene -preparation

The raw material toluene is subjected to transalkylation reaction in the transalkylation reactor to produce xylene and benzene. In the isomerization reactor, the mixed xylene isomerizes part of the m-xylene to produce p-xylene, and the reactant is mixed with the xylene from the transalkylation section after removing the light fraction in the stabilization tower to enter the C9 distillate tower, and the mixed xylene with high p-xylene content is obtained at the top of the tower, and the bottom of the tower is more than C9 components.
From the stabilizer tower top of the mixed xylene into the adsorption and separation section, the use of non-molecular sieve solid adsorbent adsorption of para-xylene, desorption of the purity of up to 99.9% of the para-xylene products, while the by-product of meta-xylene.

p-Xylene -Uses

Mainly used as polyester (polyester) fiber and resin, paint, dyes and pesticides and other raw materials.

Paraxylene -Safety

  • The lethal concentration of to mice was 15 ,~ 35mg/L. See xylene.
  • The shall be sealed and packed in galvanized iron drums or shipped in stainless steel tanker, and protected by nitrogen seal. Anti-freezing measures shall be taken in winter, and the storage and transportation shall be in accordance with the provisions of flammable and toxic substances.

Paraxylene -Introduction

Coker xylene (C8H10) is an organic compound, the common isomers are o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene. The following is an introduction to the nature, use, preparation and safety information of coking xylene: nature:

-appearance: colorless liquid, with benzene aroma. -Solubility:
soluble in organic solvents, insoluble in water.

use:
-industrial applications: coking xylene is widely used in solvents, solvent oil and paint and other fields.
-Chemical reaction: can be used as synthesis of other organic compounds intermediates, such as amino compounds and heterocyclic compounds.

preparation method:
of coker xylenes usually by xylene hydrocracking or xylene demethylation reaction. Hydrocracking: the
xylene and hydrogen in the catalyst reaction, the formation of coking xylene and hydrogen.

-demethylation reaction: xylene with aluminum chloride and other catalysts to remove a methyl group, generating coking xylene.

safety information:
-coking xylene is a volatile organic compound with certain toxicity. Avoid direct contact with skin and inhalation of gases.
-In use, should take good ventilation measures to avoid its concentration exceeds the safety limit.

-Should pay attention to fire and explosion risks, avoid with oxidants and strong acid contact. -For
accidental spills, promptly remove spills and adopt appropriate waste disposal methods.
-Storage should avoid high temperature, fire and direct sunlight.
Before using and handling coker xylenes,
should carefully read their safety data sheets and follow relevant operating procedures and safety guidelines.
