European benzene prices surge amid tight supply and strong export demand

Last week, benzene prices moved sharply higher in Europe.

An sector source in Europe informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Spot benzene prices in Europe rose, driven by higher upstream costs and tight prompt supply. Strong exports to the U.S. absorbed surplus volumes, keeping regional inventories low in early June. While sentiment remains supported by Middle East tensions and crude oil evaporative environment, the July outlook appears greater bearish. As steam crackers return from maintenance, supply is expected to enhance while downstream demand remains subdued, possibly leading to a lengthened market stability.”

FOB Rotterdam benzene prices were assessed at USD 1240–1250/mt levels, week-on-week up USD (+65/mt).

Downstream styrene monomer (SM) prices were assessed at USD 1390–1400/mt FOB Rotterdam levels, week-on-week down USD (-95/mt).

Meanwhile, FOB Korea benzene prices were assessed at USD 970–980/mt levels, reduce by USD (-30/mt) from the previous week.

The European benzene contract price to June 2026 was settled at Euro 1195/mt CIF NWE levels, representing a sharp increase of Euro (+131/mt) from the might 2026 settlement.
