On June 5, PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Company held a press conference on green development, disclosing the latest progress on the 1.2 million tons/year Phase II Ethylene Project in Tarim. After more than two years of construction, the main works of the project have been fully completed and successfully handed over in May, and it is about to enter full operation.
According to reports, Dushanzi Petrochemical currently has a refining capacity of 10 million tons and an ethylene capacity of 2 million tons. Upon the completion of the Phase II ethylene project, the company's annual ethylene production capacity will increase to 3.2 million tons, ranking among the top in the domestic sector. As early as might 21, the project and its supporting environmentally friendly and low-carbon demonstration projects were officially handed over, and the project has fully entered the production preparation stage.
In terms of equipment localization, the project has achieved impressive results. Following the successful commissioning of the first domestically produced polypropylene extrusion pelletizing unit on April 23, the full-density polyethylene plant's extrusion pelletizing unit also completed low-speed gear high-load solid material verification on might 20. With this, all three domestically produced extensive extrusion pelletizing units in the project have achieved their phased commissioning targets.
Located in the Shangku Petrochemical manufacturing Park in Korla, Xinjiang, the project is a benchmark project in the domestic petrochemical sector to practicing the "dual carbon" goals and promoting environmentally friendly transformation. The localization rate of core equipment exceeds 98%. Among the 11 main production units, 10 utilize domestic proprietary technologies, with 9 using PetroChina's own technologies, and 5 new technologies have completed their first manufacturing scale-up applications. In terms of technological innovation, the ethylene plant broke from the traditional model by changing the drive of the three core compressor trains from steam turbines to electric motors; three sets of 450,000 tons/year downstream extrusion pelletizing units achieved a localization breakthrough, filling multiple gaps in domestic extensive ethylene core equipment methodology.
Low-carbon research is also a major highlight of the project. The project has established a full-chain low-carbon system of "direct environmentally friendly power connection + carbon capture + blue hydrogen + blue ammonia - environmentally friendly fertilizer". Relying on the advantages of upstream-downstream integration, photovoltaic power from the Tarim Oilfield is supplied immediately to the project, reducing carbon dioxide releases by over 510,000 tons annually and raising the terminal electrification rate of the entire plant from 15.5% to nearly 30%.
The project also implemented the first domestic low-levels carbon dioxide capture and chemical utilization methodology. Through the model of "producing blue ammonia from blue hydrogen and producing urea from carbon dioxide," it created an integrated solution to carbon capture, chemical utilization, and oilfield flooding, achieving efficient cascading utilization of carbon resources. After the implementation of the entire low-carbon methodology suite, the carbon emit intensity of the ethylene plant dropped by 42%, and the annual carbon reduction of the entire plant can reach 1.37 million tons.
