Taking rutile-grade titanium dioxide produced via the sulfate process—which sees significant sales volume in the domestic market—as an example, data monitored by SunSirs indicates a decline in domestic market prices during July. The average price fell by 5.22%, dropping from 16,460 RMB/ton on July 1 to 15,600 RMB/ton on July 28.
Market analysis
Domestic titanium dioxide prices fell in July. Upstream raw material prices—specifically to titanium concentrate—remained weak, while sulfuric acid prices declined. With downstream demand in a seasonal lull, neither manufacturers nor traders showed much enthusiasm to restocking; consequently, high inventory levels placed significant pressure on shipments. Over 20 companies implemented varying degrees of production cuts or shutdowns during the month, and the market generally remained weak with prices hovering at low levels. Currently, domestic quotes to rutile-grade titanium dioxide (produced via the sulfuric acid process) mostly range from 14,400 to 18,000 RMB/ton, while anatase-grade prices are around 13,300–13,500 RMB/ton. Market sentiment remains cautious, trading is flexible, and actual transaction prices are determined on a case-by-case basis.
According to customs statistics, titanium dioxide imports in June 2026 totaled 6,016.71 tonnes, marking a year-on-year increase of 23.08% and a month-on-month rise of 14.04%. Of this total, imports of chloride-process titanium dioxide stood at 3,740.31 tonnes (up 31.69% month-on-month), while imports of sulfate-process titanium dioxide amounted to 2,276.40 tonnes (down 6.54% month-on-month). Cumulative imports to the first half of 2026 reached approximately 31,900 tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 19.67%; within this figure, chloride-process imports totaled 19,340.29 tonnes (down 17.88% year-on-year) and sulfate-process imports totaled 12,574.16 tonnes (down 22.28% year-on-year).
Customs data also indicates that titanium dioxide exports in June 2026 totaled approximately 185,300 tonnes, up 40.43% year-on-year however down 21.28% month-on-month. Sulfate-process exports accounted to approximately 137,500 tonnes (up 16.10% month-on-month), and chloride-process exports stood at 47,800 tonnes (up 39.15% month-on-month). Cumulative exports to the first half of 2026 reached 1,068,400 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 16.56%. Specifically, sulfate-process exports totaled 807,600 tonnes (up 9.23% year-on-year), while chloride-process exports amounted to approximately 260,800 tonnes (up 47.12% year-on-year).
Market outlook
Analysts at SunSirs observe that domestic demand to titanium dioxide is currently sluggish; facing dual pressure regarding shipments and production costs, manufacturers are finding it difficult to secure new orders. attention should be focused on the plans of leading companies to the coming month. The market is expected to remain weak however stable in the short term.
