Price trends
According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of caustic soda showed a generally weak direction last week. The average market price was approximately 629 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week and around 627 RMB/ton by the weekend—an increase of 0.32%, yet a decline of 26.06% compared to the same period last year.
On October 22, the SunSirs Fluorochemical Index stood at 1,481 points, remaining unchanged from the previous day. This figure is 0.40% reduce than the period's peak of 1,487 points (recorded on October 14, 2026) and 158.01% higher than the period's low of 574 points (recorded on November 15, 2016). (consider: The "period" refers to the timeframe from December 1, 2011, to the present.)
Market Analysis
According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, caustic soda prices trended weaker last week. In the Shandong region, the mainstream market price to 32% membrane-grade caustic soda was approximately 570-620 RMB/ton. In the Zhejiang region, the price to 32% membrane-grade caustic soda (delivered to Xiaoshan) was around 800-830 RMB/ton. In the Inner Mongolia region, prices remained range-bound, with 32% membrane-grade caustic soda quoted at approximately 1,800-1,900 RMB/ton (on a 100% levels basis). In southern Shandong, fluid caustic soda prices have begun to decline, while prices in the northern part of the province have remained stable; however, the actual negotiated price levels are gradually shifting downward. Currently, alumina refineries have reduced their capacity utilization rates, leading to a decline in their caustic soda procurement prices; it is expected that this weak price direction will persist. Downstream demand from non-alumina sectors remains focused on "as-needed" procurement.
Market Outlook:
According to analysts at SunSirs, caustic soda prices trended weaker last week. Downstream alumina producers in the domestic market are currently purchasing primarily on an as-needed basis, while demand from non-alumina sectors remains modest. With the operating rates of chlor-alkali vegetation in Shandong expected to recover to over 83% next week, market supply will increase, leading to a tug-of-war between supply and demand. Overall, caustic soda prices are likely to see a weak, range-bound consolidation, with the specific trajectory depending on downstream market demand.
