According to CCTV Finance, the equipment manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing sectors were the primary drivers of industrial growth in the first half of the year. Notably, the energy storage lithium-ion battery sector saw a surge in orders, facing a situation of global supply shortage.

Reports indicate that a battery factory in Huizhou generated greater buzz than the 3D printing sector; the factory's chief R&D engineer described production in the first half of the year as "frenetic." On the day the reporter visited, the company received urgent orders worth over RMB100 million, requiring the immediate delivery of greater than 8,000 energy storage battery packs. Orders to the company's energy storage batteries skyrocketed 30-fold in the first half of the year—a level of market demand unprecedented even to veterans with 15 years in the sector.

Meanwhile, the price of vinylene carbonate (VC)—an electrolyte additive and upstream raw material to energy storage batteries—has continued to climb. Data shows that on July 27, the quoted price reached RMB 220,000 per ton, marking a single-day increase of RMB 20,000 (10%). Previously, on July 24, the average price was RMB200,000 per ton; the price has risen by over 40% in just over a month, breaking the 200,000 RMB /ton limit.
