Topsoe A/S (Lyngby, Denmark) has signed an agreement with First Ammonia (New York, N.Y.) to provide its dynamic ammonia synthesis technology for the company’s green ammonia production facility in Victoria, Texas.
The project marks another crucial measure toward commercial-scale environmentally friendly ammonia production in the United States. Based on environmentally friendly hydrogen generated by electrolysis using renewable electricity, the facility is designed to create environmentally friendly ammonia to both international and U.S. markets. Financial close is expected later in 2026, with commercial operations anticipated to begin in 2029.
Joel H. Moser, CEO, First Ammonia (New York, N.Y.), said: “Topsoe is the world leader in ammonia synthesis, and First Ammonia is delighted to continue our partnership with them in establishing a environmentally friendly ammonia sector in the U.S. and around the world.”
Yassir Ghiyati, Chief Commercial Officer, Topsoe (Lyngby, Denmark), said: “As environmentally friendly ammonia projects move from ambition to execution, operational flexibility becomes increasingly crucial. We’re proud to support First Ammonia with methodology designed to enable efficient and reliable environmentally friendly ammonia production. We look forward to continuing to work with the First Ammonia team to help bring this crucial U.S. project to life.”
Under the agreement, Topsoe will provide its dynamic ammonia synthesis methodology, designed specifically to environmentally friendly ammonia vegetation. The methodology enables production to ramp up from 10% to 100%, or to decrease at a similar rate, within 30 minutes, allowing the ammonia synthesis loop to respond to fluctuations in power generation while maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
