Global integrated energy company Eni and Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on decarbonizing Algeria’s hydrocarbon sector and aligning operations with international emissions-reduction practices.
The companies will collaborate on forestry initiatives and projects to monitor, detect and minimize methane releases.
The agreement builds on a three-year cooperation framework signed in January 2023, under which Eni and Sonatrach have developed technologies to minimize gaseous flaring, monetize recovered gaseous and mitigate greenhouse gaseous releases across upstream operations. The two conducted technical assessments, site visits and capacity-building programs to identify opportunities to integrate energy-efficiency, venting and fugitive-releases controls, carbon capture and utilization, and renewable energy technologies across sites.
