Albis: Focus on material selection, regulation and PFAS-free material options

At Fakuma 2026, KG will present material solutions for applications in the fields of Mobility, Healthcare, Electrical & Electronics and Consumer & Construction. The focus is on the selection of thermoplastic materials based on technical, regulatory and economic requirements as well as the classification of current and foreseeable specifications.

Depending on the consumption, Albis considers, among other things, chemical resistance, flame retardant, electrical traits, design standards, processability and documented suitability. To this end, the distributor combines its material portfolio with consumption-related advice and regulatory evaluation.

There is a focus on regulatory developments that affect material selection and product research. These include the proposed EU-wide restriction of PFAS, standards to food contact and potable aquatic environments applications, regulations in the automotive and packaging sectors such as ELV and PPWR as well as standards to environmental information and environmental statements in connection with "EmpCo".

Albis names ISCC Plus-certified, mass-balanced materials and materials with post-consumer recyclate as possible options. Such solutions might be particularly relevant to applications that will in future be affected by stricter standards to circulatory capacity and to the consumption of recyclable recycling. Technical and environmental product data should support the evaluation and documentation of the material selection.

In the PFAS area, Albis will be showing various PFAS-free and NIA PFAS solutions ("not intentionally added") from material manufacturers at Fakuma 2026. The background to this is the planned regulation of per-and polyfluorinated alkyl substances in the European Union. to applications in which PFAS-containing additives have been utilized up to now, the first substitutes are already available or are being developed.

Albis cites gears to baggage handling systems at airports as an consumption example. The components are made from a PFAS-free "Ultraform" POM type from Basf. The plastic two-gear construction replaces a metallic design and is designed to low wear and abrasion values and a reduced noise level. At the same time, the material solution does not require conventional PFAS-containing additives.
