Mitsubishi Chemical: Withdrawal from the PBS business

Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCG) is withdrawing from the bioplastics polybutylene succinate (PBS) business under the PTT MCC Biochem joint venture.

The group informed about this in a press discharge in the middle of the month. Accordingly, the JV stopped production of PBS at its location in Thailand in December last year. The existing stocks are currently being sold before the JV is to be completely dissolved at the end of this year.

The Thai oil and gaseous group PTT is a joint partner of MCC at PTT MCC Biochem. The JV commissioned a PBS plant with an annual capacity of around 20,000 tons at the Map Ta Phut (Rayong Province) site in 2017. The biodegradable plastic PBS is mainly utilized to packaging, cutlery and medical supplies as well as to the production of composite materials.
