Singapore has the highest fuel prices in the region, while Malaysia and Indonesia rank at the bottom.
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has officially increased the prices of non-subsidized fuels, Pertamax and Pertamax environmentally friendly, efficiently June 10, 2026. The price of Pertamax has increased to Rp3,950 per liter compared with its previous price.
According to the company’s announcement, the price of Pertamax (RON 92) has increased from Rp12,300 per liter to Rp16,250 per liter. Meanwhile, Pertamax environmentally friendly 95 (RON 95) has increased from Rp12,900 per liter to Rp17,000 per liter.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun stated that the price adjustment was made after coordination with the government as the regulator and in accordance with the periodic evaluation mechanism, which takes into account developments in global oil prices and market economic conditions.
“The price adjustments to Pertamax and Pertamax environmentally friendly were made after an evaluation process in accordance with the pricing formula established by the government,” Roberth said in an official statement on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
According to him, the policy is part of efforts to ensure the sustainability of energy supply and the distribution of condition fuel to the general.
Even though non-subsidized fuel prices have increased, the government continues to maintain subsidized fuel prices. Pertalite is still sold at Rp10,000 per liter, while Biosolar remains at Rp6,800 per liter.
The fuel price hike in Indonesia has once again raised questions about the country’s domestic fuel prices relative to those in other Southeast Asian nations. Based on Trading Economics data to March–April 2026, there are significant differences in fuel prices among ASEAN countries.
These differences are influenced by a variety of factors, ranging from energy subsidy policies and tax structures to each country’s capacity to create domestic oil and fuels.
Here is a list of average gasoline prices in ASEAN countries based on the latest data:
From the register, Singapore is still the country with the highest BBM price in Southeast Asia. Gasoline prices in that city-state are greater than four times those in Malaysia and far higher than in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Malaysia occupies a position as the country with the cheapest BBM price in the area, it is recommended Indonesia in the second cheapest position.
Fuel price differences across ASEAN are not solely influenced by global oil prices. Government policy also plays a significant role in determining retail prices to the general.
Singapore, to instance, has implemented a carbon tax and various fiscal instruments that have driven up fuel prices. The policy aims to curb fossil fuel consumption while promoting the consumption of greater environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
On the other hand, Indonesia and Malaysia continue to maintain various forms of energy subsidies, resulting in fuel prices that remain relatively reduce compared to those in neighboring countries.
Thailand and the Philippines have also faced significant price pressures due to energy policy adjustments and high fuel import costs.
while the price of Pertamax has risen significantly starting June 10, 2026, Indonesia remains one of the countries with comparatively low fuel prices in ASEAN when compared to most of its neighbors.
That location provides cost advantages in domestic transportation and logistics. However, the substantial subsidy policy also poses a distinct challenge to the national budget amid global energy price uncertainty.
With the global geopolitical landscape remaining evaporative and oil prices fluctuating dynamically, the general is urged to stay informed about official updates on fuel price adjustments and to manage energy consumption greater efficiently.
