PDH and POCHP overhaul ends, propylene and PO supply fully restored
wanhua Chemical announced that the 900000-ton/year PDH unit and the 600000-ton/year POCHP unit in Penglai Industrial Park, Shandong Province, China have been suspended for maintenance since April 26, 2026, and have now completed and resumed normal production.
Both sets of devices are at the core of the Wanhua industry chain. The PDH plant uses propane as raw material to produce propylene, which is the raw material guarantee for Wanhua's downstream polyurethane and polyolefin products; the POCHP plant (hydrogen peroxide propylene oxide method) produces propylene oxide, which is the key upstream raw material for polyether polyols. The two sets of devices were overhauled and restored at the same time, which means that the supply of propylene and PO in Wanhua Penglai base has fully returned to the normal rhythm.
For the purchasers and traders of the downstream products of Wanhua Penglai, the maintenance window period has ended and the supply of related products has resumed. The phased supply gap formed by the maintenance has been eliminated. Therefore, the procurement rhythm and inventory strategy can be adjusted in time to avoid the continuation of tight stocking logic during the supply recovery period.
400000 tons/year OBE project: independent technology cut into the global oligopoly track.
On June 6, the candidates for the installation project of Wanhua Penglai polyolefin elastomer project completed the publicity, and the first place was Zibo Plain Electromechanical Installation Co., Ltd. This installation project covers six core modules of OBE unit: water supply and drainage (2784), raw material refining unit (2701), alkyl aluminum unit (2702), compressor plant (2718), tank group (2719) and refrigeration station (2715), covering the whole cycle of installation and construction, testing and acceptance.
The emergence of alkyl aluminum unit is particularly worthy of attention-alkyl aluminum is the core catalyst of the metallocene/post-metallocene catalyst system, which is listed separately as the installation module, which confirms the technical orientation of the project to produce differentiated OBE products using high-end catalyst route, and is an important signal to judge the product performance positioning.
Basic information of the project: the construction site is Penglai Chemical Industry Park, Huanghaihai New District, Yantai City, Shandong Province, China. The core equipment is 400000 tons/year OBE production line and supporting waste gas and waste liquid incineration device. The technical source is independent research and development of Wanhua Chemical, which will officially start on March 1, 2025.
Polyolefin elastomers are widely used in automotive interior and exterior decoration, photovoltaic packaging film, medical equipment, shoe materials and other high-value fields, the global market has long been dominated by Dow, ExxonMobil and other multinational giants, China's domestic high-quality production capacity is seriously scarce, high import dependence. Wanhua cut into 400000 tons/year with independent research and development technology, once put into operation will become one of the largest OBE monomer units in China, which is of great significance to import substitution and the reconstruction of domestic supply and demand pattern. For existing OBE importers and overseas suppliers, the pace of production capacity release is a core variable that needs to be included in the medium-and long-term market assessment.
Follow-up Key Observation Nodes: Candidates for the installation project have been publicized and completed. Combined with the start-up time node in March 2025, the delivery time and commissioning plan of the plant are the most worthy signals to be tracked at present.
