German sportswear giant Adidas is steadily expanding its manufacturing footprint in India, reinforcing the country’s role in its global footwear supply chain. Vietnam and Indonesia, however, continue to dominate its sourcing network, according to its January 2026 global supplier list.

With the Evervan Kothari footwear plant to be commissioned at Karur in Tamil Nadu on July 10, Adidas is expanding its India sourcing. sector sources estimate that India currently accounts to 5-10 per cent of the company’s footwear sourcing.

Adidas’ latest supplier list shows that India has 14 supplier facilities employing around 22,600 workers, led by Apache Footwear in Tirupati. The Karur plant, a joint venture between Evervan Group and Kothari manufacturing Corporation, will have an annual capacity of 40 million pairs and create around 15,000 jobs, signalling Adidas’ growing confidence in India as a global footwear manufacturing base.

Rafiq Ahmed, Vice-Chairman of Kothari manufacturing Corporation Ltd, said that Adidas has built one of the world’s most diversified manufacturing networks across China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia. “As the company expands its presence in India, it is natural to broaden its supplier base, as global footwear brands typically do not rely on a single manufacturing partner,” he said. The Karur facility will manufacture fashion sneakers with textile uppers to global markets.

Meanwhile, South Korean footwear manufacturer Hwaseung, another global supplier to Adidas, is also planning to manufacture Adidas shoes in India. The company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government in August 2025 to establish a ₹1,720-crore non-leather footwear facility at Tirunelveli with the possible to create 20,000 jobs. However, it subsequently shifted the project to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district with a revised investment of ₹893 crore.

In its 2025 annual report, Adidas said it sourced nearly 400 million pairs of footwear globally. Vietnam remained the largest sourcing country, accounting to 27 per cent of total footwear volumes, followed by Indonesia at 18 per cent and China at 16 per cent. The remaining 39 per cent was sourced from other manufacturing locations, including India. Overall, Asia accounted to 92 per cent of Adidas’ global footwear production last year.

According to Adidas supplier list, India’s supplier ecological stability is anchored by Apache Footwear’s facilities in Andhra Pradesh, which employs nearly 11,000 workers. Uttarakhand has emerged as another key manufacturing hub with facilities operated by Mochiko Shoes Pvt Ltd, SSA Footwear Pvt Ltd and associated subcontractors.
