CCTV News reported that at 12:36 local time on July 9, a sudden fire broke out at a chemical smelter in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. After the fire started, the risk of the fire spreading intensified. The South Korean fire department raised the emergency response level to Level 2 at 13:10 and mobilized multiple rescue teams to rush to the scene to carry out intensive firefighting operations.

As of the summary of the on-site search and rescue operations, there have been no reports of casualties. Since the smelter area contains a significant quantity of chemical raw materials, the fire is highly likely to result in the leakage of toxic and harmful gases. The regional government has urgently sent warning text messages to nearby residents, urging the general to take protective measures and stay away from the plant area and downwind areas.
