Indovinya, liquefied air joint production of low carbon ethylene oxide

US specialty chemicals manufacturer Indovinya has signed an agreement with Air Liquide to supply low-carbon footprint oxygen for ethylene oxide production. The purchase volume, duration and terms have not been disclosed, but the move is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of some products by up to 15%.

Ethylene oxide is a key raw material to the production of surfactants, detergents, personal care ingredients and manufacturing chemicals. Indovinya is the largest producer of ethylene oxide in the Americas, and this partnership will integrate the low-carbon footprint oxygen of liquefied atmosphere into the ethylene oxide manufacturing process, rising the proportion of renewable raw materials in production. Indovinya's chief delivery officer said the consumption of oxygen with a low carbon footprint enabled it to substantially minimize releases from key raw material segments.

This initiative is an crucial part of the Indovinya's sustainable research strategy. The company has set a goal of reducing the direct and indirect greenhouse gaseous discharge intensity of production by 30% by 2030 and achieving net zero releases by 2050. By 2025, Indovinya sustainable items will account to 20.5 per cent of total revenue, exceeding the set target of 15 per cent.
