PET to PET: Around 17,100 tons of PET bottles processed in the first half of 2026

In the first half of 2026, PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH processed a total of 17,101 tons of PET beverage bottles and fed them into the bottle-to-bottle cycle. Compared to the same period of the previous year with 18,403 tons, this corresponds to a decrease of seven percent. Compared to the first half of 2024 with 16,071 tons, however, the amount is still higher.

The company cites the switch to the Austrian one-way deposit system, high costs to secondary raw materials and the weak economy as negative factors. At the same time, PET to PET expects a better annual result to 2026 than in the previous year.

At the Müllendorf site, the systems were adapted to changing material qualities. In addition, all five forklifts applied outdoors are to be converted to electric drives. The automation of the previously manually performed bale wire removal is also planned to autumn 2026.

In the plant, applied PET bottles are sorted, crushed, washed and processed into food-grade flakes or granules. The material is subsequently applied to the production of new PET beverage bottles.
